I
completed my initial nursing education at Lutheran General Hospital
in Park Ridge and married Randall in 1967. We have three children
and they are: Cassandra Sue, age 33; Corey Randall, age 27; and
Megan Rebecca, age 23.
I
also achieved a BAN from the University of Illinois at Springfield
and a MSN from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Currently
I am an Assistant Professor at St. John’s College in Springfield
where I have taught for 22 years. I love working with students!
Some of my most life altering experiences have involved working
with our affiliated hospital’s ethics committee, assisting
patients and their families in end of life decision making. On a
more personal level, I had the experience of becoming a renal transplant
patient in 1998.
I
remain passionate about my family and my teaching. With our youngest
child in her last semester of college, my husband and I have had
more opportunity to travel.

I
have spent most of my time since graduation learning about things
that interest me. My interest in ecology matured into a teaching
career. Interest in energy conservation led to forming a construction
firm that specialized in super-insulation and was organized as a
cooperative. My biking interest has had a double focus. We have
enjoyed family trips including one from Seattle to Northfield, Minnesota
and another from Glacier Park to Rocky Mountain Park. After getting
in shape from mountain riding, I built and raced the Minnesota version
of human powered vehicles called “Ice Bikes.” For a
few years a neighbor as stoker and I shared the unlimited class
world record for 100m. In ’91 I happened upon a very tired
three-cylinder SAAB and bought it because of its unusual Plexiglas
windows and four-point seat belts. Took a welding class, replaced
24 pieces of rusted or crash-damaged metal and discovered the car
had been winner of the 1960 RAC Rally in England. Testing of the
finished car came in ‘97 when a friend, a Swedish cousin,
and I joined a tour from Oslo via Nordkapp to a jubilee party in
Trollhattan. In the winter of ’01, with a former student as
navigator, I entered the car in a 1000 mile historic rally from
Blackpool to Brighton recreating the experience of driving the 1960
event.
Slowing
down in anticipation of old age I am now volunteering a day each
week planting, pruning and maintaining the viewing structure at
the Garden of Quiet Listening on the Carleton campus. I am also
part of a group that has led the way for construction of a 1.65
megawatt wind turbine just two miles from my home. Electricity from
it should begin flowing into the grid by mid-September. Also in
September, Bill Agger and I plan to spend a week in the BWCA retracing
the route we paddled in 1963. Most amazing of all this is finding
myself still in love with the woman who married me 34 years ago.

After
leaving Glenbard, I went to the University of Illinois at Chicago
(UIC) graduating with a B.S. in finance. From there I spent six
months on active duty in the U.S. Army Reserves. I spent three years
working in banks for dirt money, making half of what I made bell
hopping at the Sheraton Hotel in Chicago during my college years.
Seeing no future in banking, I got a job in 1974 At Marianjoy Rehab
Hospital in Wheaton. That started me on my current career of 30
years in hospitals. I spent eight years with Blue Cross/Blue Shield
as an auditor, and the last 22 years with OSF Healthcare System
based in Peoria, Illinois. OSF is a large Catholic healthcare system
and I am their Director of Government Relations (a/k/a lobbyist).
I am enjoying my job more all the time, and enjoy working with former
classmate, Ed Welk, on a regular basis.
Barb
and I have been married 32 years and enjoy the usual hobbies of
travel, golf and theater. My only real passion is Barb - she's wonderful!
In March, 2008, Barb & I retired to Hot Springs Village, AR, where we look forward to making new friends and finding new interests. |

I
spent a lot of time in bars, hotels and cabarets, playing in an
all-female band, Ira Gobu, which ultimately took me to New York
where I ditched the band and got a record contract with RCA records
in 1975. That same year I met my future husband at a yoga retreat,
and he helped manage my career until RCA went disco! He began his
Hollywood career writing and producing a sitcom for ABC “No
Soap Radio” for which I wrote the theme song. We moved to
the west coast and I had two boys, Sam and Dave, and I became a
full-time mom, until they both went off to college (Berkeley and
University of Oregon). When I escaped from Los Angeles in 2003 and
moved to my new home in Yogaville, Virginia, I began pursuing a
full time yoga lifestyle, creating a video for plus size yogies
called BIG YOGA, and working on a companion book. (BigYogaOnline.com
is the website).
I
graduated from Eureka College in 1968 and have also studied music
composition and south Indian classical music. I’ve been teaching
yoga for over 25 years and also am a certified Orff educator (music
for kids). I continue to write and produce music for the film and
TV world.
In
1998, I purchased a beautiful property on Lake Michigan, down the
road from my great-grandmother’s cottage, and I rent my three
little summer cottages during the summer months, and hang out with
my mom, Esther, and take long swims in the lake.

Kathleen
and I have two beautiful daughters, Tamara (34) and Jennifer (33);
along with one terrific grandson, Nathanial (4). After graduation
I worked for 10 years in our family automotive business, taking
enough time off to obtain an Automotive A.A. degree from Ferris
University in Big Rapids, MI. After selling the family business
in 1974, I went to work for Hertz Rent A Car for six years; and
then moved on to Budget Rent A Car for the next 18 years. In 1998,
when Ford sold Budget, I was downsized (a nice word for fired).
I decided I had enough fun in rent a car so I took a job as regional
manager for Copart Auto Auctions. It was a great move – Copart
is a fast growing, very successful company where I have a team of
general managers that are the best in the auction industry.
Personally,
Kathleen and I are starting to think about retiring in the next
five to seven years. Over the years we have traveled to a number
of different countries, and we are planning to spend a lot of our
retirement hitting the many interesting places we have missed. We
did build our “Dream” home two years ago, so we do plan
on staying in the area after retirement. I am still an avid Cubs
and Bears fan and I do enjoy genealogy research when I can find
the time.
Outside
of work I have been president of CATRALA of Illinois (1988 and 1989),
Trustee of Lewis University (1990 to 2002), and Republican Committeeman
(1996 to 2000). Overall – Life is GOOD and I am really looking
forward to the next 40 years.
