Susan and I have three children (Sarah, 29; Liz, 26; Bradley, 17) and a granddaughter. I graduated from Maryville College in Tennessee in 1968, served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1972 as a Vietnamese linguist, a spent a year working for the Armed Forces Police in Washington, D.C.

I am the president of Graphic Chemical & Ink Company in Villa Park, Illinois, a major supplier of fine art materials. I’ve been very involved with a number of trade associations both in Illinois and nationally. In 1985 I was elected to the first of three terms on the Glen Ellyn  District 41 school board. The Governor of Illinois appointed me first to the Education Funding Advisory Board as a voting member and finally as a member of the Illinois State Board of Education. Taking total leave of my senses, I ran for the State Legislature in 2002 – got my butt kicked badly, but I had fun doing it.

Susan and I love to travel and fortunately have the chance every once in a while. We recently spent two weeks in Lithuania.

1974
After attending Blackburn College, graduating from Maryville College, and spending time in the Navy as a Petty Officer 2d Class, Dean is working for a printing ink manufacturer in Villa Park. While in the Navy he visited Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Okinawa, Japan, and "points west". Dean and his new bride, Sue Ryan (class of '66), live in Ill.

Since high school, I married and had three daughters. In 1986 I went through a marriage dissolution and went to Northern Ireland to live for a year. While there I taught the Pilot Court Reporting Program for the Queen's Court of England. I married Jack Houston in 1988 when he immigrated to the U.S. from Northern Ireland. Jack died in 2000. My daughters all married and have had five children among them; sadly, one child was terminally ill and died in 1990. By reunion time I shall have another grandchild.

I’ve taught extensively, owned my own business, worked for General Mills, Inc., and obtained a bachelor’s degree in management in 2001. Also in 2001 I retired from General Mills and now spend my time traveling in the United States and abroad. I am currently volunteering as an ESL tutor at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois where I help the spouses of the scientists develop their English skills.

I have led an interesting and very diverse life and shall continue to accept the challenges presented to me and work to turn them into opportunities.
