| After
spending two years at the University of Denver – and one school
term at the National University of Mexico in Mexico City – I
transferred to the University of Missouri School of Journalism. After
graduation from there, I spent seven years at the Chicago Tribune,
first as a financial reporter and then a copyeditor in the city room.
Along the way, Norm and I began dating, fell in love and got married
in 1970. We lived on the north side and did a lot of traveling before
moving back to the ‘burbs and having our first child, Elizabeth,
in 1975 and then Brian in 1977. I was fortunate to be able to take
off about eight years to be a stay-at-home mom, becoming active in
school, community and church groups in Elmhurst. In 1983, I went back
to work full-time in public relations and eventually became director
of corporate communications for Advocate Health Care, the largest
healthcare system in Chicago. Though journalism would always remain
my first love, I enjoyed my new career, but in 2001, both Norm and
I decided it was time to pursue some other dreams. We left our home
for the cross-country drive to Tucson on the morning of 9/11 –
not exactly a happy beginning to our new retirement life – but
it has turned out to be a good decision for us. I will always consider
Chicago to be my hometown – and still like to go back at least
once a year to get my fix of big city life – but I love the
year-round sunshine and range of outdoor activities here. I've taken
up tennis again, try to do as much hiking as possible, and Norm and
I went on a week-long whitewater rafting trip down the Colorado River
in the Grand Canyon this June (my first experience at camping –
quite an introduction!). And I guess I haven't gotten work completely
out of my system, because since moving here I've dabbled again in
financial reporting for a local paper, freelance writing for a healthcare
publication back in Chicago, and most recently, part-time reservations
work for a luxury health spa. Life is good! |

When
it comes to a well rounded variety of experiences I have had many.
Lived half my life in Colorado and of course good old home town
Chicago suburb, Glen Ellyn, along with several others. Worked for
Joan Eposito, NBC Chicago Anchor,1996 to 1998. Was great and traveled
with them to Mexico several times, lots of fun. Loved living for
a time in the Gold Coast. I did enjoy the grand opening and working
for American Girl Place on Chicago Ave., Could not believe, I sold
$4,000 twice to two seperate fathers who were loving the things
for their little girls. Met Princess Fergi, we closed the lower
level for her conviencence in shopping. Amazing what money and power
does. Goldie Hawn and Curt Russell were cool to meet when I lived
and Worked as an assistant manager for my sister Marge & her
husband, John Dragon's Shoe and boot store, in Glenwood Springs
Co. She was a sweet lady had to fit her boots on her kids were fussing
and she was a great mom how she handled it.
Worked for John Novak as a cashier at the Du Page Tresurers office
and the Chicago Department of Defense, Government Contracts for
all military. My education in life was from those and so many other
types of work, all intereting as I earned an income to provide for
myself and daughter, Donna Marie Kammes who has been married, now
she is an interior designer. She built her lovely Large Log home,
which is looking out over the entire Continnential divide. Her web
site is being completed, snowmountaindesignstudio.com,
she also teaches all over Jefferson County as a substitute teacher,
something also I did.
I am now semi-retired and dabbling in writing, stories and gift
card free-lance, had poetry I had written in 7 suburb papers in
the Downers Grove, Illinois area. They selected 2 poems of mine
that I submitted out of the 14 posted for a Valentine contest, February
1999 while I was living at the time.
Just call me the wanderer! Talking now with Mary Hollinger, she
is really sweet and Donna who is taking great care of helping me
with the school updates, etc.
Take care To All classmates of 64'.

Never
blessed with kids. Spent most of my career in the academic area.
Currently in my 16th year as VP for Administration at the University
of Connecticut (home of the nation's greatest women's basketball
teams!).
Decided
about 20 years ago to pursue a lifelong curiosity about blacksmithing,
and I have become a pretty decent smith. I teach and exhibit from
time to time.
